October Scor-pal Designer Challenge

It's time for yet another Scor-pal Designer Challenge. The challenge for this month is simply two words- "Sweet Treats". How you interpret that is totally up to you, just as long as you use your Scor-pal or Scor-buddy.  Link up your projects using Mr Linky and one entry will be chosen as our December Designer Challenge Guest Designer.  Also, don't forget you can also post a link to your project on the Scor-pal Fan Page for a chance to win a Kindle! Entry deadline for both challenges is October 31.
All entries must be newly created and can be entered to no more than 2 other challenges.

Here is what October Guest Designer Nina Revis created for this month's challenge:

Candy Shaped Treat Box
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 5~10 minutes (Decoration time varies)
Supplies: Scor-Pal, Scor-tape, Scissors and Ribbon
Letter-Size Cardstock or Patterned Paper (8-1/2’’ x 11’’)
Ruler, Pencil and Eraser
Optional: Stamps, Punches, or Decorative Scissors

Step 1: Short Side at top, score at 2’’, 4’’, 6’’ and 8’’.

Step 2: Long Side at top, score at 1-1/2’’, 2-1/4’’, 2-3/4’’, 3-1/2’’, 7-1/2’’, 8-1/4’’, 8-3/4’’ and 9-1/2’’.

Step 3: Stamp the page (Optional) I white embossed the flowers. Score lines are as marked: Black lines – Mountain Fold; Orange lines – Valley Fold. You can fold them before or after Step 4, as shown in Step 5

Step 4: Short side at top against right corner, ½’’ strip on the right. Put ruler at 4-1/4’’, 6-1/4’’, 8-1/4’’, 10-1/4’’ and 10-3/4’’, mark as shown. (Red lines indicate some pre-scored lines.)

Step 5: Fold as shown

Long side at top, vertical lines folded:

Short side at top, vertical lines folded:

Step 6: Cut the edge notches:

Step 7: Fold and cut the other notches as shown:

And you will get this when done:

Step 8: Use decorative punches or scissors for the edges (Optional)

Step 9: Add scor-tape to the ½’’ strip and cut the edges as shown:

Step 10: Erase the pencil marks. Remove the liners and form the box.

Step 11: Tie ribbon on one end and put treats in. Tie the other end to finish.

As you can see here, these boxes are BIG! I have a variation at my blog for a 5’’ box body (As the striped one shown in the first photo.) There are so many possibilities for decoration, have fun!

Tips:
If you want to add a window to the boxes, an Anywhere Punch less than 2” would be the best. Add the window to either one of the middle sections or you will have an edge showing. If you do not mind an edge showing (as the green box shown in the first photo), a normal 1-3/4’’ punch would be great!

For variations, please visit my blog: jmdmoo.wordpress.com.

Thanks! Happy Crafting!

Thanks to Nina for that great tutorial!

September Scor-pal Designer Challenge

Welcome, Scor-pal fans!
Today marks a whole new adventure here on the Scor-pal blog.  Starting in September, on the first Monday of each month (that's today!!) we will be introducing a new
Scor-pal Designer Challenge.

This month we have challenged the Scor-pal Design Team to with an "Out of the Box" challenge--create any type of box with your Scor-pal

Here is just one of the projects created this month:

Back to school tissue box cover and pencil holder by Scor-pal Designer Tami Mayberry

This project was created using the Scor-pal along with the Oxford collection of papers and embellishments from Basic Grey.

The tissue box cover was created using this tutorial from Scor-pal Designer Diane Zechman. After creating the basic shape the box was decorated using an Oxford 6x6 paper pad with pieces trimmed slightly smaller than each panel. Once finished, it was embellished with matching school themed stickers and 3D embellishments from the same collection.

The pencil holder was created with an 8"x11" piece of card stock and a few simple scores using the Scor-pal, as shown below.

With the 8" side along the top of your Scor-pal score a line at the 2" mark.

Rotate the paper 90 degrees and score at 2", 4", 6" 8" and 10".
(These lines will intersect with the previous score line.)

Snip along the five short 2" lines stopping where the score lines intersect.

Attach Scor-Tape along 1" section

Fold into tube shape

Fold in bottom flaps, Secure with Scor-Tape and decorate!
(The featured sample uses 5 pieces of patterned paper cut at 1 3/4" x 6")
