Guest Designer - Melissa Craig

Good Morning!  I am really sad to see today come.  Not only did my baby become a 14 year old today, but it's my last post as a guest designer for Scor-Pal.  I have enjoyed my time with Scor-Pal immensely and I thank Diana, Gini and Tami for allowing me to be a part of their amazing team!

For my last project, I have a birthday celebration to share with you.

So everyone knows how to create rosettes using their Scor-Pal board.  But I took these rosettes to cupcakes.  I also recycled some pop tabs to create flowers from the paper rosettes.  Using Scor-Tape, I adhered the pop tabs to a circle of card stock that has been covered with a Scor-Tape (6x6 size).  I suggest using light weight card stock with the Scor-Tape, it goes through your punches much easier.  Adhere the pop tabs, add another layer of card stock circle to sandwich in the tabs and then add the rosette.  The rosette will adhere well with Scor-Tape, no need to fire up the glue gun.

Glue some sticks to back, add some ribbon and decorate your cupcakes.  Easy!  You can decorate all of them for individual table settings or just a few like I did for a grouping presentation.

Guest Designer Melissa Craig

Hi everyone!  Happy Friday.  I have a fun project to share with you that I am so super excited about.  I mentioned {on my blog} that I have been rediscovering my punches.  And with this rediscovery, I needed to incorporate that with Scor-Pal.  First let me show you what I created and then I'll tell you all about it.

Isn't this cute?  I swear to you, I was doing the happy dance when I finished this.  So excited that it came together!  Let me talk about the bunnies first.  This was the punch art that I discovered on a You Tube video by Dawn Griffith.  It starts out by creating a wrapper for the candy bar.  I scored according to her directions, but they are for KitKat bars, not little Hershey bars, so I ended up forgoing the score lines and just wrapping the candy bar with Springtime papers (by Echo Park).  Then proceeded to make the bunny out of large and small oval punches, tag punch, 1/2" and 1/4" circle punches, a gel pen and a Copic liner.

So how did I incorporate the Scor-Pal?  Here's the very exciting part for me.  I created the picket fence box!

First, I created the base from a 4 x 4 square of white cardstock.  I scored at a 1/2" on all four sides and stamped the grass on the edges and then created the box bottom.  I then cut 20 3/8" x 2" pickets, lined up 5 of them side by side and stamped more grass on them.  Then I cut the crossbar piece which is about 12 1/4" inches.  So, of course, it was cut in two pieces and then spliced together with Scor-Tape.  I scored the crossbar at 3, 6, 9 and 12 inches.  Then on the Scor-Mat I carefully laid out 5 pickets just inside the 0 and the 3 inch marks, spacing the middle pieces out evenly.  With liquid glue I put a thin line of glue on the pickets where I wanted my crossbar piece to go.  Then laid the crossbar down to adhere.  Then repeated this process until all four sides had their pickets.  Then I applied more liquid glue to the end of the pickets, lined it up to the base bottom and if you did it with precise measurements, the sides will just "roll" along each side.  When this is done, there is a 1/4" hang over from the crossbar, which is scored at 12" - this is your tab to close up the box.  Then I just stamped some flowers and a dragonfly, fussy cut them out and glued them onto the box.  I filled it with Easter grass and the bunnies.

I wish I had thought to do a picture tutorial but I was so excited to get my idea into paper that I didn't bother with the camera until the end.  I hope you enjoyed this share without it.

Baby Shower Favor Boxes With Guest Designer Melissa Craig

Hello everyone,  Melissa Craig here.  I am sharing my MONUMENTAL project with you today.  And let me tell you, I was thrilled that I had my Scor-Pal - it really did come to my rescue.

My friend at work is due to have a sweet baby girl in about 4 weeks so, my friend Evelyn and I set out to make the favors for her shower, which was yesterday.  Well, I ended up making all 40 of them by myself, Evelyn got really sick.  I found this great SVG box from a sweet little shop that I can't find at the moment.  I'm pathetic, I know.  Anyway, once I got it sized down to what I wanted, I was thrilled to discover that it fit on my Scor-Pal with only 1 adjustment needed.  Wow!  What a time saver.

So here is the front of the favor box.  I added an umbrella which was cut from Die-Namics Umbrella die.  The just dressed up the handle with a bit of ribbon.  I used glue to stick on the umbrella, but I did use Scor-Tape to adhere the box.

This is what it looks like on the side.  Cute right?  You have no idea how relieved I was to see this box fit into my Scor-Pal.  I was able finish 40 favors within the time it took to watch Phantom of the Opera and Memoirs of Geisha.  Mommy-to-be and friends LOVED them!

Creating a Chevron Pattern with Scor-pal Guest Designer Melissa Craig

Hi everyone, Melissa Craig here.  I am so excited to share something I've discovered how to make.  I was inspired by a scrapbooking blog I happened upon and of course, now I can't find.  However, directions weren't posted on how to use a Scor-Pal to create chevrons, so I played.  I have figured out  how to make this super easy design element to add to your cards and pages and I'm excited to share it with you.  Here's my finished project....

And the chevron, up close.  Make a bunch of these... layer them up.  Trust me, they'll look fabulous!

Here's how to do it:

Step one:  Score a 1" x 11" lengthwise at 1/2"

Step two:  rotate and score every 1/2"

Step 3 Now you're going cut out your chevron.  Using each box you created with the score lines, you are going to cut out triangles.  The score lines give you perfect guidelines.  See diagram below:

Step 4 Voila!  You have a chevron border.  You can make these any size you want, just make sure you're scoring evenly.

Embellishments:  Mulberry flowers (Prima), Sugared Brads (Doodlebug)

I used a great sketch from The Sweet Stop as my jumping off point.  As I stared at that cute sketch, it hit me.... Scor-Envy!  So I pulled out some great card stock from Raisin Boat (Sweet Cheeks) and started my card.  I used the size for an A2 size envelope.  So I cut my card stock 8x8 and then scored according to the markings on the Scor-Envy.  Then I cut a piece of designer paper into triangles and then fit it to the top and bottom pieces of envelope.  I embossed the side panels.  But since this is a card, I needed an inside.

So, stamping a sweet heart border on a white panel, I created the inside of the card.  I left plenty of room for a personal message.

I had so much fun creating this card!!

Good Morning!  
I hope you're having a great start to 2013.  I know I am, I've been playing, relaxing and reading.  I really enjoy my Kindle Fire.

Here's something else I've been enjoying... playing with my Scor-Pal and products.  I have been lucky to land a guest design spot!  I cannot tell you how thrilled I am about this.  But I'm a bit intimidated, too.  How am I going to come up with great projects to share with you?  Well, I'll do my best.

I started here....

I went calendar crazy with the start of the New Year!  I'm sorry that picture isn't so pretty, but wait til I show you the calendars individually.

This was the first one I did.  Now I found a You Tube video by Caroline Buchtine (here).  Now what she created were great, but I felt it needed a bit more stability. So here's what I did.  I started with a base piece of card stock that measures 7 x 9 1/2.  Then on the Scor-Pal, score at 1, 4 1/2, 8 1/2 and 9 inches.  Fold at your score lines, all mountain folds.  The 1/2 part will be a valley fold.  Then apply Scor-Tape along that edge and adhere to close up the tent.  I hope that makes sense.  And then decorate.

I then took it further.  This calendar measures 5 1/2 inch square.

And then one more.  This one measures 4 1/2 inch square.  I feature MFT stamp set Clearly Sentimental about Audrey Hepburn, Die-Namics Mini Royal Roses, Die-Namics Fishtail Banners and the dies that came with the new Genius Ultimate Platform.
