Scor-Pal & Core'dinations Week - Day 4

Today we are continuing a week long feature with our friends at Core'dinations.

Our designers will be bringing you some fun and exciting projects using not only Scor-pal products, but also, a mix of papers from Core'dinations. Of course, that's not all. The Core'dinations team is playing with Scor-pal products this week on the Core'dinations blog.

First up, Scor-pal Designer Virginia Nebel 

I love polka dots and the Core-dinations Tillie Dot card stock is super cute! You can use the embossed texture card stock as or sand them down to reveal the white core. I decided to do a bit of both for the base of my scrapbook page. 

I placed green Tillie Dot cardstock (embossed side down) on to my Scor-pal tool and scored a random grid pattern. I knew I was going to use 2.75 square inch photos so I just made sure I had some 3 x 3 squares in my grid pattern which will frame my photos.

After scoring, I flipped the dot card stock over and sanded the dots in a swirling pattern. I am trying to mimic a bit of snow falling as my page is about my daughter having fun building her North Pole village houses. 

I used the light brown woodgrain Cosmo Cricket Core Impression pack and Cosmo Cricket's Jolly Days pattern papers to embellish my page.

Hi everyone...welcome to the Core'dinations Blog Week! I have such a fun project to share with all of you. I created a Holiday Mantle using nothing but the Core'dinations card stock and of course Scor-tape to hold it all together!!

To create this Holiday Mantle I broke it down in pieces. I started with the side and top pillars first. I used a 12x12 piece of Slate card stock from the Tim Holtz Adirondack Core'dinations Collection. I cut two pieces into 4 1/2" x 5" sections and another into 4 1/2" x 6". 

I then scored all three pieces at 1", 2", 3" and 4". Scoring at the 4" mark will leave you a 1/4" edge which allows you room to use Scor-tape to when forming the pillars. 

Please note that I embossed my pieces of card stock before I scored them...don't worry you will be able to score them easily after they are embossed 

Next I used the Core'dinations sand block to distress my pieces of card stock and to bring out the brick texture from the embossing. 

It's easier to do this step when the card stock is still flat which is why I didn't fold mine on the score lines until after this step. The score lines are still visible even after distressing them with a sanding tool....

I then added some Scor-tape to 1/4" edge of the card stock and formed the pillars. After that I put them to the side and began working on the fireplace. 

I cut a piece of Triumphant Red card stock to 6 1/2" x 8 3/8". Place it on the Scor-pal at the 6 1/2" length and score at 1 1/4" & 5 1/4".

Turn the card stock to the 8 3/8" length, score at 1 1/4", flip the card stock around and score again at 1 1/4". 

Now you'll fold along your score lines to create your box, or in this case your fireplace : ) Please note that I again embossed my card stock before folding. 

I used the Core'dinations sanding tool again to bring out the brick pattern.

I then used some black distressing ink to create the illusion of soot...

For the mantle I cut a piece of the Pebble card stock into 5 1/2" x 8 3/4 and scored it at 1 1/2". I ran it through my embosser and used the sanding tool once more. 

Now all of my pieces are complete and I just need to put them together. This calls for Scor-tape

Now the fun part....dressing up the mantle. I wanted to keep this fairly simple and clean...so the texture from the distressing on the card stock would really show through. 

I have the perfect spot picked out in my house to display this for the holidays. I hope I've inspired you to use some of the Core'dinations paper collections for a project other than a scrapbook page or album, which to be honest is what I normally do. There's nothing like Scor-tape to hold a project like this together..I seriously love this stuff and use it ALL the time.
